Grow. Explore. Discover.

Hickling Pre-School is a friendly, safe, community-focused environment for children to learn through creative play. The Pre-School is a registered charity and was first established over 50 years ago in 1967. It is constantly evolving to meet the needs of local parents and children.

The Preschool

Hickling village preschool is based in the Village Hall in Hickling, Nottinghamshire close to the Leicestershire border in the Vale of Belvoir. It caters for children from 2 to 5 years old and has strong links to Kinoulton Primary School.

The children have full and exclusive use of the village hall which has a library, computer access and a flexible array of play equipment, climbing frames and themed table top play zones. We have a kitchen, toilet facilities and an enclosed outdoor play area which we make the most of in the warmer months. The children often enjoy walks in the village and the surrounding area.

Open Mon-Fri during term time 9:15-15:15

Dedicated Staff

We have an exceptional team of qualified, experienced, committed ladies who ensure that every child is treated as an individual and achieves their potential though the delivery of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

They have experience of supporting children with special educational needs and are skilled at meeting the needs of the younger children who attend. We take safeguarding children very seriously and aim to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children in our care. Staff are trained in safeguarding and we commit to keeping your child safe in line with Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures.

One of the benefits of the community setting is that staff are all local and build relationships with the children that endure throughout their younger years.

Steps to School

Every Wednesday afternoon we run a session for children due to start ‘big school’ the following September. The more structured format helps to prepare children for the transition and includes visits to Kinoulton Primary School and the opportunity to make friends with future primary school classmates.

Each week, children who attend the session will practice a ‘letter of the week’. We encourage children to bring an item from home that begins with the letter and will practice the sound of the letter to support the phonics work they will do after transition to primary school. For details on which Letter of the Week it is, see facebook page.

Wrap around Care

To help working parents, wrap around childcare is available from 7.30am – 6pm each day by using Rattle and Roll Breakfast and Afterschool Club at Kinoulton Primary School from Age 3. Parents would need to arrange their own transport for children between Wraparound care and pre-school.
